LOVE LIKE CHRIST!

OUTLINE

 

 

 

Loving like Christ will enable me to love others in a self-sacrificial way and will identify me as His follower to the world around.

 

I.                   Becoming like Christ will necessitate learning to serve self-sacrificially – vv. 1-17.

A.    Love without sacrifice of self is not complete – v. 1.

B.     Our responsibility to serve does not depend on external circumstances – v. 2.

C.     Our propensity to serve is directly tied to our understanding of who we are in Christ – vv. 3-5.

D.    Serving others is an acquired concept that must be learned by the believers – vv. 6-11 (Luke 22:24-27; Matthew 20:26-27; Philippians 2:7; Mark 10:45). 

II.                Selfish refusal to submit to God results in inability to serve and love (and ends in eternal damnation) – vv. 18-30.

A.    Nothing in our lives is outside of God’s control – vv. 18-19.

B.     How you treat the preacher is how you treat God – v. 20.

C.     When we are dead-set to pursue our own selfish goals over God’s will, it never ends well – vv. 21-30.

III.             Love like Christ – vv. 31-38.

A.    Our sacrificial love brings God the glory – vv. 31-33.

B.     Our sacrificial love is limited to our fellow believers – vv. 34-45.

C.     Our sacrificial love cannot be done in our own power – vv. 36-38.
