Become a Christian

Discover New Life
and Hope Through
Jesus Christ

Did you know that you can become a Christian today? Right now.

Here is how it works.

First, you are a sinner. Come on, you know that, otherwise you wouldn’t have clicked on this page. The Bible simply states that all humans were born sinners. All of us. In the New Testament, Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans (3:23) states this: “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Second, sin has its price. In fact, the Bible says that the  penalty for sin is death – eternal separation from God. There are many places that state this and one of them is also in Romans 6:23, which goes like this: “For the payment for sin is death. . .” God’s holiness cannot co-exist with a disregard for human sin. It’s as simple as that.

Third, God paid that price. Why would he do that? Because you can’t. Understanding our impossible predicament, God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay our penalty and thereby provide a way for the eternal life with Him for those who avail themselves of this provision. The Romans 6:23 passage I quoted above actually does not end where I stopped in the previous point but continues with these words: “. . . but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Fourth, your turn. This is how you become a Christian. To benefit from Christ’s death on our behalf, all that is required of us is to believe that His death paid for our sins and entrust our lives to Him. Apostle John makes this point very clear in his gospel (you have seen this reference in many football games) – John 3:16 – “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”

Apostle Paul expresses this idea a little differently in his letter to the church in Ephesus – Ephesians 2:8-9 – “Our salvation is by God’s grace through our faith and is not a reward for the good things we have done, for we have done nothing towards it, so none of us can boast about it.”

So, you can accept God’s free gift of salvation today by simply praying this prayer:

“Father God, I confess to you that I am a sinner and believe that Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for my sins on the cross. I do now receive Jesus as my personal Savior and pray this in Christ’s name. Amen.” Or you can restate the same ideas in your own words.

The Bible states that if you openly declare that Jesus is Lord (the prayer above) and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). That is a promise and a guarantee. How simple and awesome is that?!

Now what? If you prayed the prayer above or expressed its gist in your own words to God, what do you do next? Three things that will help you to progress in your new faith:

  1. Listen to God.
  2. Talk to God.
  3. Hang out with God’s people.

How do you do that?

You listen to God by reading the Bible.

You talk to God by praying.

And you hang out with His people by going to church, like Christ Chapel, our church.
